What challenges do my loved ones in spirit face when trying to communicate with me through Shannon?
Answer: Your loved ones have 3 huge hurdles to clear when attempting to successfully communicate via a medium.
1. They must relay the information to me in a way that when I then relay it to you it shows I am getting this information ONLY from your loved ones whose consciousness has survived physical death. They must demonstrate that I haven't gotten this information from say, digging in your trash (ick!), researching you on the Internet, or speaking with someone who knows you. They must also demonstrate that I am not reading your mind, either conscious or unconscious. Or that I am not somehow tapping into information that is just “out there”, as in what some call the Akashic records. I consider this to be a huge hurdle and as long as I have been doing this, every time I consider this hurdle I am amazed. This really goes to the heart of the questions WHAT and WHERE is consciousness. A very exciting question that is now being explored by serious science.
2. In relaying the information they must communicate it via the four psychic senses. Which means I’m going to be getting the information in a fluid, fast moving combination of instantaneous knowings, visual literal and symbolic images that come and go quickly, physical sensations, emotions and clairaudient literal and symbolic cues. Each bit of information that is communicated can vary in detail, sometimes the visual images are so fast, I'm left with just an impression.
3. In relaying the information your people on the other side must use my life experience and my knowledge in describing your life and your loved ones. They cannot give me information about something that I don’t know. For example, if I had never heard of a heart attack I wouldn’t be able to get that information from your loved ones. Is the medium’s knowledge important in their ability to do a good job? I believe so. I do all I can to continue to learn as much as I can about everything.

Claircognizance - psychic knowing
My favorite psychic sense! It is the hardest for people to trust and the most difficult to develop further. The best way to describe this sense is that the information just occurs to me. Messages recieved via claircognizance are instantaneous and can contain a large amount of information. All information is initially received as "neutral" or "free of emotion". This is helpful because it allows me some "emotional distance" when being told something graphic or violent in nature. Although, I'm not always told the "difficult stuff" in this way.
Clairvoyance - psychic seeing
Thanks to Hollywood there are many very clairvoyant people out there and they don’t know it because they are expecting Hollywood’s version and Hollywood’s version is just plain wrong. The visual images are in my "mind’s eye" or on "the screen of my imagination". They vary in detail. The images can be literal or symbolic. The symbolic images can be in my reference, the client's reference, or spirit's reference. One example, if I'm shown a 1965 mustang, in my reference that's the name "Bruce", to someone else it could be a car they owned and loved.
Clairsentience - psychic feeling
I experience Clairsentience in two distinct ways. The first is through physical sensations. The physical sensations are extremely subtle, do not hurt me, and are not disturbing. They connect or correlate with what caused the passing of the person I'm communicating with, or the passing of someone else in spirit who may or may not communicate with us, but that we need to be aware is present during the discernment. Rarely, but sometimes, spirit will give me a physical sensation that connects with an illness or condition that someone alive is currently experiencing. The client may not be aware of the illness or condition at the time of their discernment. BUT, THE ILLNESS OR CONDITION WILL HAVE ALREADY BEEN DIAGNOSED AND IS NEVER A PREDICTION THAT SOMEONE WILL GET THE CONDITION. I’m not always clear where this information connects. In other words, I may correctly identify the illness or condition but I may not be clear who it is connected to. This is part of my learning process. I believe the information is in there, in the impression, I’m still learning how to decode it correctly.
The second way clairsentience is used with me is through emotion. I’m given an emotion and then I move through the emotion, gather the data, and then turn the data into words. I search for the most precise word to convey what your loved one is telling me through an emotion. When I don’t find the right word I will convey similar words and let you know I haven’t hit the exact word. When I have the right word I get a feeling of “click” in my body similar to the click you feel when you hold a combination lock in your hand and you reach the final number.
Clairaudience - psychic hearing
This isn’t just hearing sentences as many would imagine. When I do hear sentences I hear them in my mind, not externally. Sentences will be short, simply structured and concise. Spirit will also use common expressions, colloquialisms, and songs that I know. We all have a wide range of physical, audient experiences and spirit can use those as well. Some examples of other sounds that can be used are: gunshots, the specific sound of screeching tires and crunching metal heard during a car accident, and what it sounds like to be hit by lightning. (I’ve heard gunshots on TV, have personally been in a car accident, and have been struck by lightning.)
A common question I'm asked is whether or not I'll be able to understand a spirit who in life never spoke English. I am able to understand them and have at times correctly identified their native language. I still get Dutch and German confused. To me they sound very similar. I also understand infants, people who were unable to speak due to physical limitations, and pets.
This is like learning a foreign language and everyone I communicate with speaks a different dialect.
It’s like the difference between speaking with someone from Scotland with a heavy accent and someone from Brooklyn. Both speak English but both sound very different. Some dialects I can understand easily and quickly and others it takes a few minutes for me to adjust, kind of like when I go to see a Shakespearian play!
Clairsentience is often confused with Claircognizance.
When looking at the definitions of the words look at the origins of the words. The root word for sentience is sentire meaning to feel. The root word for cognizance is co meaning to, and gnoscere meaning know.
Clairalience, or psychic smell, is a very common experience in ADC’s. Smelling a passed loved ones, cologne or pipe smoke when there is no physical explanation for the scent is often a comforting sign from spirit that they are present, and likely happens on significant days or when we need extra comfort.
